Telstra FITT Event on Career Planning & Advancement

The Telstra-sponsored evening on Career Planning & Advancement was attended by about 50 women in ICT in Melbourne, a great turnout on a very rainy night.

The keynote speaker was Michael Lawry (Telstra Executive Director). Others who spoke included Irene Evgengiadias (Telstra Program Manager), Dr Cathy Foley (CSIRO), Ashley Lazar (Telstra A/g CIO) and Julie Quinton (Telstra General Manager).

Free Luncheon hosted by Cisco and ACS

The recent Cisco networking luncheon (discovering your unique strengths and striving for self-mastery) attracted over 300 registrations and had to be moved to a larger venue. We’d like to thank those of you who were able to make it along. We hope you found the event inspiring.

For those of you who missed it, Cisco have kindly provided a recording of the panel session, so you can catch up on all the action.

During the session, the speakers presented a number of tips on how to identify and strategically utilise your key strengths and those of others to create cohesive teams and optimal performance. Tools recommended by Clive Leech (Executive Coach) and Dr Suzy Green (Coaching Psychologist) are listed below:
VIA Strengths Finder Test
Strengths Finder Tool (Professional)
Strengths Finder 2.0 (Gallup Press; hardcover; February 2007)

Thank you to Cisco and ACS for hosting such a wonderful event.

Free Webinar on tips to become more successful on what you set out to achieve

On April 28th, Females in Information and Technology (FITT) hosted it's first Webinar of 2010, More Time for Life with special guest presenter, Sacha Crouch. Through its valuable sponsor PGI, FITT were able to provide over 170 registered members with valuable tip on how to become super effective and make more time for themselves. The Webinar was a great success.

Sacha provided attendees with a good overview on the importance of prioritising what's important, optimising your time as well as simple techniques to reduce stress, feel relaxed and switch off from work.

For more information on Sacha, please check out her web site at http://www.activ8change.com.au/

FITT thank Sacha for providing a valuable experience to our FITT member as well as PGI for helping to host the event. We look forward to seeing FITTmembers at the next webinar so stay tuned for more details.

International Women's Day Luncheon - Monday 8 March 2010

300 women (and some men!) met at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel (March 8 2010 ) in Sydney to celebrate the Telstra FITT International Womens Day luncheon - 100 years of change! As 1910 was the year a women's charter was drafted and plans made for the first International Women's Day, FITT members and guests joined to revisit that charter. We were incredibly fortunate to have Minister Jodi McKay, M.P, NSW Minister for Women to open the event and then onto a fabulous lunch involving lots of laughs, great food and wine, very happy raffle winners, and riveting personal and open anecdotes from our panellists Pru Goward, Shadow NSW Minister for Women, Senator the Senator the Hon Helen Coonan, Liberal Senator for NSW and former Federal Minister for ICT and Deena Shiff, Group Managing Director, Telstra Business all conducted with great skill by our fabulous MC for the day, Candy Tymson, Professional Speaker & Executive Coach in Gender Communication. Our panellists and MC all donated their time (many thanks) and the event could not have been run without sponsor support from Telstra, SAP, PGI and UTS.

FITT Melbourne Networking Event - "2010 ... make IT happen!"

A FREE event kindly hosted and sponsored by IBM on Tues Feb 23with a panel of senior IBM executives speaking including:

  • Janet Matton - IBM Vice President Sales Operations And Executive
  • Nicole Crooks - IBM Vice President, SO & Global Technology Services
  • Robyn Woodley - IBM Client Director BHP
  • Jane Chen - IBM Executive IT Architect
  • Moderated by Wayne Morrison who is a Project Executive in IBM Global Business Services

The panel discussed matters related to their careers in the ICT industry, and the challenges and opportunities they see for business in 2010 and beyond. We had over 100 women attend and the feedback was great! It is worth noting that FITT cannot run events like this in Melbourne without (a) sponsorship like from IBM (thank you IBM for hosting and organising this event) and (b) FITT volunteers in Melbourne to help our Melbourne-based FITT Steering Committee member Tracy Currie. FITT also recognises there are some great women in IT&T groups around Australia (whereas in Sydney, FITT fills a particular gap) so its a matter of partnering, not duplicating. FITT encourages our members to check out the other locally-based groups which may provide additional events/mentoring programs that some are asking for.
